What each comparison shows

• 180-day return — the change in the fund’s buying price over the same window for both funds, computed by us from daily published prices rather than taken from a monthly report.
• Management fee — deducted from the fund before the unit price is struck, so it applies whatever the market does. It is the one number on the page knowable in advance.
• Volatility — annualised standard deviation of daily price movements. It says how much the price moved to produce the return, and it cannot be derived from monthly data.
• Largest fall — the biggest peak-to-trough drop over the period we hold prices for. Volatility describes the typical day; this describes the worst stretch.
• Minimum investment — the smallest opening amount the manager accepts, which decides whether a fund is available at all.
